About Girls Inc. of the Island City
Girls Inc. of the Island City (GIIC) is an affiliate of Girls Inc, a national, nonprofit organization. Our mission is to inspire all girls to be strong (healthy), smart (educated), and bold (independent) through innovative programs, activities, and advocacy.Since 1964, we have empowered more than 24,000 girls in the city of Alameda to realize their potential as fearless, goal-oriented young women.Trained staff and volunteers build lasting, mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces that are physically and emotionally safe and where girls find a sisterhood of support with shared drive, mutual respect, and high expectations.
GIIC provides more than 25,000 hours of programming each year to girls ages 6 to 18.Our programs inspire girls and young women to grow and develop skills in the areas of science, math, technology, personal development, financial literacy, life skills, physical activity, and the arts—and to build successful frameworks for their futures. GIIC alumnae go on to become savvy professionals, thoughtful leaders, and caring community advocates.
